Gunmen Strike Ngige’s Convoy in Anambra, Woman Killed

Gunmen on Friday ambushed the convoy of former Anambra State Governor, Dr Chris Ngige, along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.
Ngige was not in the convoy during the attack.
According to a statement by his former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, the assailants—said to have worn police and military uniforms—opened fire on the pilot vehicle, injuring a police officer whose rifle and uniform were taken.
A woman who attempted to record the incident on her mobile phone was shot dead by the attackers.
A shop owner who ran towards the scene was also shot. He reportedly lost much blood but is billed for surgery and is responding to treatment.
Contrary to early speculation, no police officer was killed. The escort leader who sustained serious injuries has undergone surgery and is expected to recover fully. The shop owner was described as “fortunate,” as none of the bullets hit his spine.
Chukwuelobe said he had spoken with Ngige, who confirmed the incident and assured that the injured were receiving adequate medical attention. The former governor also condoled with the family of the woman who was killed.
The Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement.
