IGP Withdraws 11,566 Police Escorts from VIPs Nationwide

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has confirmed the withdrawal of 11,566 police personnel attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) across the country.
IGP Egbetokun made the disclosure on Thursday during a strategic meeting with senior police officers of the rank of Commissioner and above. He explained that the move follows the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is already being implemented.
The police chief noted that the affected officers have been debriefed and redeployed to operational areas where their presence would have a more significant impact on national security.
He further revealed that approximately 120,000 police personnel are currently assigned as private security escorts, highlighting the scale of resources previously allocated to VIP protection.
The IGP emphasized that the reallocation is part of a broader effort to enhance security operations and ensure that police manpower is optimally utilized for public safety.
More details on the redeployment and its expected impact on security will follow.
