The Osun State Security Council has convened once again, adopting fresh, far-reaching strategies aimed at safeguarding residents from both internal and external threats.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi and attended by heads of all security agencies in the state, reviewed ongoing operations and drafted new service-wide measures to strengthen safety across communities. Adewusi relayed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commendation to the security commanders, expressing confidence that the renewed security architecture will further protect lives and property.

The council also urged citizens to intensify cooperation with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities and providing actionable intelligence to help curb crime.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke has raised concerns over what he described as a disturbing rise in politically motivated violence, particularly in Ijesaland. He directed the Commissioner of Police to launch a decisive clampdown on political killings and restore order in affected communities.

The governor condemned recent attacks in Ilesa, warning political actors against stoking violence ahead of the election season. “If indeed our mission is to serve the people, then we must respect the ballot and the free choice of voters,” he said, tasking police authorities with securing volatile areas and preventing further bloodshed.

In a separate development, the state government has concluded plans to establish mobile courts, comprising eight magistrates, to address the growing congestion in detention facilities. The mobile courts will handle overnight criminal cases, remand proceedings and other urgent matters to ensure the smooth administration of justice.

The initiative followed a request by the Governor’s Legal Adviser, Nurudeen Kareem, to the Chief Judge of Osun State, seeking the creation of the courts to forestall human-rights violations and mitigate security risks posed by overcrowded cells, especially amid the ongoing judicial workers’ strike.

The Chief Judge has granted approval, paving the way for the immediate rollout of the mobile court system.
