ASUU, FG Near Conclusion of Crucial Negotiations; NEC to Decide Next Move

ASUU, FG Near Conclusion of Crucial Negotiations; NEC to Decide Next Move

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to conclude its high-stakes renegotiation with the Federal Government today, Tuesday, following a meeting that began on Monday.

In a statement released on Tuesday via its official Facebook page, the union said its National Executive Council (NEC) will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, to review the outcomes of the negotiations and determine the next course of action concerning its previously threatened indefinite strike.

The union assured members and the public that an official update would be communicated once the NEC concludes its deliberations. The statement read:

“The renegotiation meeting commenced on Monday and is scheduled to conclude today. Immediately after this phase, the National Executive Council will convene tomorrow to review the outcome and determine our next line of action. Members and the general public will be duly informed once NEC concludes its deliberations. Stay alert. Stay united.”

ASUU had earlier threatened to shut down all public universities in the country over unresolved issues with the Federal Government. These include the union’s rejection of the 35 per cent salary increment offered and lingering concerns over the implementation of previous agreements.

In October, ASUU temporarily suspended its warning strike to allow for negotiations, but tensions have persisted as discussions dragged on without a concrete resolution.
