Tinubu’s Sleepless Nights Amid Nigeria’s Security and Economic Crises – Orji Kalu
Former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu is losing sleep over Nigeria’s persistent security and economic challenges.
In an interview with Channels Television, Kalu attributed the country’s security woes largely to a manpower shortage in the police force. He noted that despite government recruitment efforts, Nigerians remain reluctant to join the force.
“The country is under-policed, but it’s not because the government is failing to recruit. Even when adverts are placed, many are skeptical about joining the police,” Kalu said.
The former governor assured Nigerians that President Tinubu is personally committed to finding solutions, insisting that improvement is on the horizon.
“It’s a problem of manpower. This is a population of almost 300 million people. We are not 250 million. President Tinubu is having sleepless nights every day about Nigeria, and I can assure you that things will get better,” Kalu added.
Part of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda promised more boots on the ground to ensure nationwide security. Yet, the country continues to face escalating threats from terrorist groups, with kidnappings and killings reported daily.
Kalu emphasized that while the government is actively recruiting police personnel, joining the force cannot be forced on citizens.
“We have advertised. Did you apply? We are doing everything possible,” he said.
As insecurity deepens across Nigeria, Kalu’s comments highlight the urgent need for both increased manpower and public cooperation to address the nation’s persistent security challenges.
