The leadership of Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government Area has insisted that the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel from the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains valid, despite a recent letter from the party’s National Secretariat.
In a statement signed by the ward chairman, Hon. Adebayo Ismail, and secretary, Hon. Durojaiye Oluwole, the executives said the National Working Committee (NWC) has no constitutional authority to overturn or nullify disciplinary actions taken by APC organs in Ogun State.
The ward leaders explained that the suspension followed the senator’s alleged failure to respond to invitations to defend himself against accusations of anti-party activities. They said the APC constitution empowers executive committees at all levels – ward, local government, state, zonal, or national – to initiate disciplinary measures.
“While it may be conceded that Senator Otunba Olugbenga Daniel has not been expelled from the party, his suspension, which remains unchallenged, temporarily halts his rights, privileges, and obligations in the party,” the statement read.
The Ward 4 executives also accused Senator Daniel of undermining APC during the last general elections and attempting to frustrate party candidates at the Election Petitions Tribunal. They described his actions as “directly hostile to the interests of the APC and its candidates in Ogun State.”
The ward leadership affirmed their commitment to upholding discipline, fairness, and due process within the party.
