Tinubu Hails Troops as Matawalle Declares Banditry Nearly Defeated in North-West

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is impressed with the operational successes recorded by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in ongoing counter-banditry campaigns across the north-west.

Speaking during a visit to the theatre command headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, the former governor commended the officers and men for what he described as their “uncommon gallantry”, noting that their sacrifices have paved the way for the gradual restoration of peace in the region.

“Mr President specifically asked me to tell you that you have done exceedingly well,” Matawalle said.

He explained that most notorious bandit leaders and their fighters have been neutralised through sustained military pressure, adding that only a few scattered elements remain.

According to him, the Commander-in-Chief has directed that the remnants be completely flushed out, assuring the troops of enhanced logistics support, improved welfare, modern platforms, and real-time intelligence to conclude the operation.

Addressing soldiers on the parade ground, Matawalle urged them to remain vigilant, disciplined and resolute, stressing that total victory over banditry is “within reach.”

“Your sacrifices will never be in vain. The President is proud of you, the nation is proud of you, and very soon, people of this region will sleep with their two eyes closed,” he added.
