The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) yesterday ratified the expulsion of Oyo, Bauchi and Zamfara governors — Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed and Dauda Lawal — alongside former Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, ex-minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, and several others for alleged anti-party activities.
The NEC also approved the dissolution of the party’s executive committees in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Ekiti and other affected states.
The sanctions were adopted at the 103rd NEC meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.
Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, who presented the memo recommending the expulsions, said the affected officials “willfully disregarded subsisting court orders” and engaged in conduct that brought the party to disrepute.
National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, read the communique issued at the end of the meeting.
According to NEC, the party had been confronted with actions by members who violated court directives by convening and attending an “unauthorised convention,” a move it said deepened factionalisation and triggered a wave of defections among governors and lawmakers.
NEC reaffirmed that the PDP’s legitimacy rests on strict adherence to its constitution and the Nigerian Constitution, not on what it called “acts of impunity.”
The committee endorsed disciplinary proceedings against Adolphus Wabara, Bode George, Ben Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel and Emmanuel Enorden.
It further directed Chief Ali Odefa to refund all salaries and allowances allegedly received after his expulsion on December 12, 2024.
NEC ratified the appointment of Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South East) and approved the dissolution of state executives in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos and Ekiti, while affirming the Edo State exco led by Barr. Nosa Ogieva.
Deputies of NWC members affected by the expulsions were directed to assume their positions in acting capacities.
NEC also formally confirmed Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman.
In addition, the committee mandated the party’s legal team to begin constitutional processes to reclaim the seats of all elected officials who defected from the PDP, citing Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.
A nationwide reconciliation initiative and membership audit were also approved ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While acknowledging concerns within the party, NEC maintained that its decisions were designed to restore order, discipline and stability, declaring that “the era of indiscipline is over.”
Earlier, the BoT Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and the Acting National Chairman urged members to remain committed, expressing confidence that the PDP would overcome its internal crises.
