Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Turaki Storm PDP Secretariat as Tension Boils Over
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed, on Tuesday stormed the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja amid a deepening leadership tussle within the party.
The duo arrived in company with the newly-elected National Chairman, Dr. Saminu Tanimu Turaki, and were escorted into the premises by their security details.
They proceeded to the NEC Hall, where the faction loyal to the acting National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, was already seated for its meeting—setting the stage for what insiders described as a tense face-off between the rival blocs.
A chaotic scene unfolded outside the complex as police fired teargas to disperse surging supporters of both factions who clashed while attempting to force entry.
As at press time, details of discussions behind closed doors remained unclear.
