Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, have engaged in a fresh verbal exchange following an incident at Fayose’s recent birthday celebration.
Obasanjo, in a statement released in Abeokuta on Monday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, disclosed that he received what Fayose described as a “thank you” message — one laced with sharp criticism and personal jabs.
The SMS, which Fayose reportedly sent after the event, thanked the former President for attending the celebration but berated him for comments allegedly made at the venue. Fayose accused Obasanjo of making “irresponsible comments,” adding that he refrained from responding at the party “so that the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man.”
The former governor further alleged that Obasanjo was exhibiting “heightened dementia,” and demanded a refund of money he claimed the former President received from him, which, according to Fayose, Obasanjo publicly admitted at the event.
Fayose wrote:
“I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received but Dangote brought you back… Your leopard will never change his skin.”
Responding tersely, Obasanjo dismissed Fayose’s claims and characterisation, saying the content of the message only confirmed “who and what” the former governor is.
Obasanjo added that the money in question had already been returned:
“Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it and in the same bag as he brought it unopened by me.”
The exchange adds a new layer to the long-running, often volatile relationship between both political figures.
