The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, yesterday said the party emerged in response to Nigerians’ growing demand for good governance, accountability and a more resilient democratic system.

Mark stated this in Abuja during the unveiling of the party’s new national secretariat, describing the edifice as a bold symbol of the ADC’s renewed commitment to nation-building.

He said the journey to building a viable political movement was initially met with doubts and misconceptions, but stressed that the coalition that has now evolved into the ADC remains “a historic child of necessity”.

According to him, the new complex will serve as the nerve centre of the party’s strategic operations and leadership development.

“When we began this journey, many doubted us, while some questioned our motives. But as we take this step forward today, we make it clear that this ADC coalition is inspired by the people’s desire for good governance, greater accountability and a stronger democracy,” he said.

Mark described the secretariat as the hub from which policies, ideas and strategies capable of strengthening institutions and uplifting communities would be developed.

He said: “From within these walls, we shall continue to champion policies that will safeguard the democratic foundations upon which our republic stands.”

Calling for unity, discipline and vision-driven politics, the former Senate President urged party members to see the unveiling as the beginning of a new chapter marked by justice, equity, integrity and service.

“Let this day mark the end of old divisions. Let today symbolise the rise of a stronger, more disciplined and people-oriented political party with only one agenda: to serve Nigeria,” he said.

He noted that the ADC would henceforth operate on the pillars of character, competence, courage, discipline and integrity.

Prominent party leaders at the event included ADC National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; former Edo State Governor, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor; former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Kogi West Senator, Tunde Ogbeha.
