Ex-AGF Malami Declares 2027 Kebbi Governorship Ambition, Pledges to Tackle Insecurity

Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has formally declared his intention to contest the Kebbi State governorship in the 2027 elections.

Malami, who resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said his decision followed “wide consultations and deep personal reflection” and is motivated by a desire to “rescue Kebbi State” rather than personal ambition.

Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa on Monday, Malami expressed confidence in his political support across the state, adding, “INEC guidelines don’t permit mobilisation yet, but when the time comes, you will see that the people of Kebbi are with us. I have agreed to contest, and there is no retreat. God willing, we are going to win. We won’t disappoint those who believe in us.”

The former AGF criticised the ruling APC for worsening insecurity in the North, noting that bandit attacks have forced many farmers to abandon their land, leading to declining food production.

“Rice mills that operated for two decades have shut down because of bad policies that favour foreign companies,” he said, blaming both state and federal governments for “negligence and policy failure.”

Malami’s agenda, he said, focuses on restoring security, revitalising agriculture, and improving the welfare of Kebbi residents. He described his campaign as a “rescue mission” rather than a quest for personal gain.
