Adamawa State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Convention Planning Committee, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has confirmed that the party will hold its much-anticipated elective convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Fintiri spoke with reporters on Thursday night shortly after a meeting of key stakeholders at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
The session drew top party figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde; PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba; and former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, among others.
Addressing journalists, Fintiri disclosed that the party had resolved outstanding issues and was united behind the choice of Ibadan as host city.
“We’ve just concluded a critical stakeholders’ meeting where far-reaching decisions were taken,” he said.
“I can confirm to you that we are heading to Ibadan for our convention, and the date remains sacrosanct.”
Efforts to obtain further clarification were unsuccessful, as his security aides moved him away from the crowd of reporters.
The convention is expected to shape the party’s leadership direction and reposition the PDP ahead of upcoming political battles.
