The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, Shehu Kambile, has resigned from his position as Special Assistant to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kambile announced his resignation in a statement issued in Yola on Wednesday, saying the decision was part of his commitment to reposition the ADC as a formidable opposition party in the state.

He explained that his appointment in the Fintiri administration came through the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) framework designed to promote inter-party collaboration and national unity.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve under Governor Fintiri,” Kambile said, “but I must now step aside to focus on building a credible and vibrant opposition that can serve as an alternative voice for the people.”

Kambile commended former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar for his efforts in deepening internal democracy and inclusivity within the ADC. He also called on party members to close ranks and work collectively toward the growth and stability of the party.

Reacting to the development, Atiku applauded Kambile for what he described as a reaffirmation of loyalty to the ADC’s ideals.

“I commend the Adamawa ADC chairman, Shehu Yohanna Kambile, for his courage to resign from the state government, despite his appointment under the IPAC arrangement,” Atiku said. “His action demonstrates his commitment to restoring genuine democracy in Nigeria.”

Atiku urged Kambile to collaborate with Sadiq Dasin, chairman of the state’s transition leadership committee, and other stakeholders to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

The Adamawa ADC has, however, been engulfed in a leadership tussle, with three factions laying claim to the chairmanship. The crisis has divided members into camps loyal to Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and Aishatu Binani, former senator, while the incumbent, Yohanna, insists he remains the duly recognised chairman.

Lawal’s bloc has backed Sadiq Dasin as chairman, while Binani’s faction supports Saidu Komsiri. Yohanna has maintained that he is the legitimate leader of the party, even as Atiku has openly endorsed the Dasin-led faction.
