The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Jude Ezenwafor, its governorship candidate in the recent election, over alleged anti-party activities.

Chidi Chidebe, the PDP State Chairman, disclosed that the party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) resolved to suspend Ezenwafor during a meeting in Awka on Tuesday. The suspension, which takes immediate effect, will last for one month, pending further recommendations from the party’s disciplinary committee.

Chidebe alleged that Ezenwafor “did not campaign in any ward, local government area, or across the state throughout the election period.” He also accused the candidate of spreading unsubstantiated claims of assassination attempts and extortion against party members, including his running mate, and engaging in manipulative behavior unbecoming of a PDP candidate.

According to the party chairman, Ezenwafor allegedly established a parallel group of mostly non-party members to interfere in party affairs, further destabilising the PDP.

“In light of the above, the SEC resolved to suspend Mr Jude Ezenwafor for one month and refer him to the state disciplinary committee for further investigation and recommendations,” Chidebe said. “The National Working Committee (NWC) has been notified to deny him or his collaborators any recognition or access, as their actions aim to undermine the party.”

Chidebe noted that the party had to step in and instruct council executive committee members to campaign for PDP in their respective areas after it became clear that Ezenwafor lacked the interest or capacity to campaign. He attributed the party’s 1,401 votes—placing it sixth out of sixteen parties—to these collective efforts.

“The candidate secured only one vote in his own ward, Nnobi Ward 3, Idemili South LGA, which has 12 polling units. This poor showing reflects a lack of character, credibility, and commitment,” Chidebe said.

The PDP’s leadership under Ambassador Umar Damagum has vowed to rebuild and reposition the party in Anambra.

Ezenwafor, meanwhile, congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his re-election and pledged continued cooperation, describing his relationship with Soludo as longstanding and cordial.

In the election, APGA won with 422,664 votes, APC came second with 99,445, followed by YPP with 37,753, and LP with 10,576 votes.
