Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has advised youths undergoing Qur’anic studies to also embrace Western education as a means of achieving a well-rounded life and contributing meaningfully to the growth of society.
Fintiri gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 40th Adamawa State Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition, held at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola. He commended the participants for their dedication to the Holy Qur’an and commitment to upholding Islamic values but urged them to broaden their intellectual horizons.
Represented by the Commissioner for Housing Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Prambe, the governor said that combining Qur’anic knowledge with Western education would enable young people to compete effectively in today’s world.
> “Our youths must seize the dual opportunity before them. The knowledge of the Qur’an enriches the soul, while Western education equips the mind. Together, they prepare us for a brighter and more prosperous future,” Fintiri said.
He expressed concern that many northern youths restrict themselves to religious studies, leaving them ill-prepared for professional or technical careers. According to him, the state’s evolving educational system now provides opportunities for integrating both Islamic and Western learning.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving access to quality education and ensuring that no child is left behind, regardless of background or faith.
The overall winner of the competition, Ahmed Abdulqadir from Yola South, promised to make the state proud as he represents Adamawa at the forthcoming National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Borno State.
