Anambra State Governor and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Chukwuma Soludo, has accused an unnamed opponent of engaging in vote-buying in Nnewi South Local Government Area, offering voters as much as N15,000 each.

Speaking on Friday, Soludo said reports of vote inducement had emerged from a few polling units, particularly in Nnewi South.

“The only concerns we have received are in one or two places, particularly in Nnewi South, where there is massive vote-buying. Some people are being paid — a candidate from the LGA seems desperate to win and has been distributing N15,000,” he said.

He added, “Even if they share N100,000, never mind. Let the people vote. Count the vote.”

The governor, who earlier voted at Isuofia polling unit, expressed confidence in the transparency of the electoral process and assured that the results would reflect the will of the people.

Security officials have been deployed across the state to maintain order and prevent electoral malpractice, as stakeholders await the outcome of the exercise.
