Trump’s Threat: Tinubu Must Think Deeply — Dele Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and publisher, Dele Momodu, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to “put on his thinking cap” in the wake of growing international concern over insecurity and religious killings in Nigeria.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday, Momodu reacted to the recent warning by U.S. President Donald Trump, who reportedly directed the American Defence Department to prepare for possible military intervention in Nigeria if the government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”

Momodu urged President Tinubu to surround himself with capable and sincere advisers rather than political loyalists, saying the present situation requires wisdom, diplomacy, and strategic thinking.

“The President needs to get people who have the capacity to speak and will be listened to — not all these political jobbers. He is very good at politicking; he can make all governors in Nigeria join the APC. But we have passed that stage now,” Momodu said.

He noted that the unfolding diplomatic pressure poses a new challenge to the Tinubu administration.

“Two weeks ago, if anybody had told you that President Tinubu would find himself in this precarious situation, he would have dismissed it as impossible. I saw him speaking last night, and I must confess I felt for him. This is not the best time to be President of Nigeria,” Momodu added.

“He now has to put on the thinking cap — for himself, his team, and for all of us as Nigerians.”

The U.S. President’s statement has sparked reactions across Nigeria’s political and security circles, with stakeholders calling for urgent diplomatic engagement to ease tensions and restore confidence in Nigeria’s human rights record.
