The Oyo State High Court has cleared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead with its elective national convention scheduled to hold between November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the state capital.

Justice A.L. Akintola, in his ruling on Monday, granted an interim order permitting the party to proceed with its convention plans without any obstruction. The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the exercise as required by law.

The ruling followed an ex-parte motion filed by one Folahan Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Governor Umaru Fintiri, who chairs the National Convention Organising Committee; and INEC.

Adelabi had sought to restrain the defendants from altering or interfering with the party’s timetable, guidelines, or arrangements for the planned convention.

In his decision, Justice Akintola held that the claimant presented a compelling case that required urgent judicial protection.

“The motion ex-parte has merit and succeeds as prayed,” the judge ruled, granting temporary reliefs that safeguard the PDP’s schedule and direct all parties to allow the convention to proceed as planned.

The substantive motion for an interlocutory injunction was adjourned till November 10, 2025, for hearing.

The interim order, dated November 3, 2025, was sealed by the Oyo State High Court and endorsed by the Principal Registrar, S.O. Hammed.
