PDP NWC Suspends Anyanwu, Legal Adviser, Others Over Court Order

PDP NWC Suspends Anyanwu, Legal Adviser, Others Over Court Order

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four of its top officials following a court ruling halting the party’s planned national convention.

Those affected include the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature.

The suspension, which will last for one month, was announced after an emergency meeting of the NWC held on Saturday at the party’s Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who briefed reporters after the meeting, said the decision was in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

According to him, the affected officers have also been referred to the PDP Disciplinary Committee for further action.

Ologunagba said:

“The NWC, in line with the provisions of our party’s constitution, came to the conclusion that the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and the National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature, be suspended for one month pending investigation by the disciplinary committee.”

The development came barely 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the party to suspend its proposed national convention slated for next week.

Party sources said the emergency meeting was convened to forestall further internal crisis and maintain order ahead of the leadership transition process.

Further details were still sketchy at press time.
