Presidency Commends Senate Over Approval of New Military Chiefs

The Presidency has lauded the Senate for confirming new military chiefs, describing the development as a key step towards strengthening Nigeria’s security framework.
In a statement on Wednesday, Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Senate Matters, said the confirmation of the top officers would enhance synergy among the Armed Forces and bolster the protection of citizens and national sovereignty.
“As the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, I facilitated this crucial interface to ensure a smooth and coordinated engagement between the Executive and the Legislature. This aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to effective governance and national security,” Lado said.
He expressed gratitude to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate leadership, and individual senators who screened and cleared the nominees, noting that their dedication reflects strong collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government.
The officers confirmed by the Senate include Lt Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major Gen. Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
Senator Lado added that the appointments would significantly advance the national interest and reinforce the stability and security of the country.
