Tinubu’s New Service Chiefs Face N’Assembly Screening

The newly appointed service chiefs yesterday appeared before the National Assembly for screening by the Senate and House of Representatives.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on October 24 named Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff; Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff; AVM Sunday Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff; and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Akomaye Undiandeye retained his seat as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
The reshuffle followed public outcry for stronger security outcomes in the face of persistent terrorism, banditry and violent crimes across the country.
In separate plenary sessions, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read the President’s letters requesting expeditious confirmation.
The Speaker thereafter raised a special committee headed by Defence Committee Chairman Babajimi Benson to screen the nominees ahead of their confirmation.
