NUT Condemns Kwara Govt Aide Over Teachers’ Humiliation

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ilorin East Branch, has strongly condemned the action of a government aide in Kwara State, who reportedly ordered teachers to sweep the compound of Government Day Junior Secondary School, Amule.

In a statement, Comrade Saka Saafi Adanla, Chairman of NUT Ilorin East, described the incident as “humiliating” and “totally unacceptable,” calling for an immediate apology from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Chairman.

Comrade Adanla assured the affected teachers of the union’s full support and pledged that NUT would continue to safeguard the rights and dignity of educators across the state.

The incident occurred during a visit by the SUBEB Chairman to the school, prompting widespread condemnation from the teaching community.

The union’s full statement reads in part:

“The humiliation and disrespect meted out to our teachers is uncalled for. The leadership of NUT Kwara State is fully aware of the situation and is working tirelessly to address this issue. We demand an apology and assure our members that their rights and dignity will be protected.”

The NUT leadership urged all teachers in Ilorin East to remain resolute and committed to their professional duties despite the incident.
