APC Adopts Oyebanji As Consensus Standard-Bearer For 2026

Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji was on Monday adopted as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The affirmation was conducted at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti, during a special nomination session presided over by the chairman of the primary election committee and Kogi State governor, Usman Ododo.
The motion to ratify Oyebanji in line with Section 84(11) of the Electoral Act was moved by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and seconded by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye.
Before the voice vote, one of the aspirants, Mrs Atinuke Omolayo, withdrew from the race and openly backed the incumbent.
Governor Ododo thereafter announced the overwhelming approval of 885 accredited delegates and urged other states to embrace consensus to prevent internal wars and wastage of resources within parties.
In his acceptance speech, an elated Oyebanji credited President Bola Tinubu’s intervention for the unity move, promising to deepen his administration’s “shared prosperity” agenda across all sectors.
He described the consensus adoption as unprecedented in the state since 1999 and appealed to co-aspirants — including Kayode Ojo — and other aggrieved stakeholders to join hands with him ahead of next year’s election and the 2027 presidential contest.
Oyebanji vowed not to betray the confidence reposed in him by the president, the party leadership and the delegates.
