BREAKING: Kanu stalls trial, says DSS blocked access to case file

Detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, on Friday again failed to open his defence before the Federal High Court, Abuja, insisting he had been denied access to his case file while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Kanu — who sacked his legal team led by ex-AGF, Kanu Agabi (SAN), on Thursday and opted to conduct his own defence — told the court he could not proceed because he had not sighted the file to prepare.

Prosecuting counsel Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) had reminded the court the matter was fixed for defence. But Kanu prayed for a short adjournment till Monday, October 27, to enable him access the file.

He further disclosed that he was expecting witnesses from the United Kingdom, United States, Kenya and Ethiopia, and applied for an order allowing him to meet visitors over the weekend to aid his preparation.

Awomolo did not oppose. Justice Omotosho consequently ordered the DSS to permit Kanu to receive visitors on Saturday and Sunday.

The court adjourned to October 27 for Kanu to open his defence, warning that the six-day window allotted to him would not be extended.
