Former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has been declared the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by consensus.

The announcement was made on Wednesday night in Abuja by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State at about 10:45 pm, following extensive consultations among key PDP Northern stakeholders.

Governor Fintiri described the consensus as a product of unity and collaboration, aimed at strengthening the party ahead of forthcoming political contests. Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), now assumes the leadership mantle of one of Nigeria’s major political parties at a crucial time.

Present at the stakeholders’ meeting where the decision was reached were the incumbent PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum; governors Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi); former Ministers Prof. Jerry Gana and Bukola Saraki; former Kaduna State governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Ahmed Makarfi; as well as Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, among other party luminaries.

The consensus election of Turaki reflects the Northern bloc’s strategic efforts to consolidate the party’s leadership structure and promote internal cohesion.
