The newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, is set to officially assume office on Thursday, October 23, 2025, as the nation braces for the next wave of electoral activities.
A statement by INEC’s Deputy Director of Publicity, Wilfred Ifogah, revealed that Prof. Amupitan will convene his inaugural meeting with the Commission’s Directors immediately after his swearing-in. The meeting is scheduled to hold at 1:30 pm in the Conference Hall of INEC Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the statement, this engagement will mark Prof. Amupitan’s first official interaction with the commission’s top bureaucrats and is expected to set the tone for his leadership direction.
“Prof. Joash Amupitan’s assumption of office comes at a critical period for INEC as preparations intensify for forthcoming elections nationwide. His inaugural session with directors is likely to highlight his immediate priorities and strategic vision for strengthening the electoral body,” the statement said.
Observers note that the leadership of Prof. Amupitan will be closely watched as stakeholders call for transparency, efficiency, and credibility in the electoral process.
