IPAC Drops ADP from Council over Constitution Dispute

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has expelled the Action Democratic Party (ADP) from its fold over the party’s refusal to sign the council’s constitution.

The sanction, conveyed in a letter signed by IPAC National Secretary, Barr. Maxwell Ngbudem, and addressed to the ADP National Chairman, followed an emergency meeting of the Council’s General Assembly held on August 1, 2025.

IPAC noted that ADP had declined to append its signature to the IPAC constitution, the governing framework of the council, insisting that no party can continue to participate in its affairs while ignoring its binding rules.

“The General Assembly, after due deliberations, resolved to suspend the Action Democratic Party (ADP) from all activities of the Council,” the letter read.

It added: “This decision became necessary owing to ADP’s deliberate refusal to be a signatory to the IPAC constitution, which is the binding instrument regulating the affairs of the Council.”

By the resolution, all ADP state chairmen holding leadership positions within IPAC at the state level have automatically forfeited such offices with immediate effect.

IPAC maintained that the suspension underscores its commitment to enforcing internal discipline and preserving the credibility of Nigeria’s inter-party democratic framework.
