The Nigeria Police have arraigned Aloy Ejimakor, legal counsel to detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, alongside his brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and ten others, over a protest held in Abuja.

The demonstration, which sought the release of Nnamdi Kanu, reportedly disrupted traffic and caused a public nuisance, according to the police.

The defendants are facing charges of inciting disturbance, breach of public peace, and disobedience to a court order. The police alleged that the protesters blocked roads, disrupted the free flow of traffic, and chanted war songs while calling for Kanu’s release.

Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, had earlier warned that anyone violating the court order would face arrest and prosecution. The police acted on this warning, leading to the arraignment of the suspects.

The development has generated widespread debate, with critics accusing the police of suppressing dissent and calling for the immediate release of the defendants.
