In a major political shift, Hon. Ojema Ojotu, representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency in Benue State, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was announced on Tuesday during plenary by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who read Ojotu’s letter on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Ojotu cited the PDP’s unresolved internal crisis as his reason for leaving. “After consulting with my constituents, family, and political associates, I have decided to join the APC,” he stated.

With Ojotu’s move, the APC now controls all Benue federal constituencies in the House.

The defection sparked a brief clash in the chamber. Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki (NNPP) demanded Ojotu’s seat be declared vacant under Constitutional Point of Order 68(1)(g), but House Majority Leader Ibrahim Halims defended the lawmaker’s decision, citing party crises.

Deputy Speaker Kalu welcomed Ojotu to the APC and assured him of unwavering support. The lawmaker also chairs the House Committee on Inland Waterways.
