Police pick up Kanu’s lawyer Ejimakor, others at Abuja protest

Police operatives on Monday arrested Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, alongside several other protesters during a demonstration in Abuja.
Ejimakor confirmed the arrest in a post on his X handle, disclosing that he and others were being held at the FCT Command Criminal Investigation Department located on No. 1 Zaria Street, Garki II.
“We’ve just been arrested. Myself, Prince Emanuel and others. We are at FCT Command CID… Myself, Fine Boy and others,” he posted.
Earlier, the lawyer had accused the police of firing teargas to disperse the demonstrators, claiming the chemical irritant affected his eyes and throat.
The protesters had converged to demand the release of Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021 despite previous court rulings ordering his release.
The Monday protest formed part of renewed pressure on the Federal Government to obey those court judgments.
