The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has slammed the defection of former party executives to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a desperate attempt to remain politically relevant.
State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, said the exit of Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, former State Chairman, and Gabriel Kananjogun, immediate past State Treasurer, is “a blessing in disguise” that will create opportunities for committed members, particularly youths, to thrive.
Adewara alleged that Mohammed had lobbied to retain his position during the last party congress but was rejected by party members who assessed his performance and loyalty. Similarly, Kananjogun’s bid to be installed as PDP Chairman in Moro Local Government was reportedly turned down by grassroots members, who had recognized his “double standards and self-serving politics.”
“It is laughable that individuals rejected by the grassroots for lack of loyalty are now running to the ADC, claiming to be victims of anti-democratic tendencies,” Adewara said. “Their actions confirm the old saying that when character fails, excuses multiply.”
He also dismissed reports that Mohammed is being considered for the position of State Chairman in the ADC, calling it evidence of the party’s “emptiness and political bankruptcy” in Kwara.
Adewara concluded that the PDP remains united, strong, and people-driven, urging members not to be distracted by the exit of what he described as “politically irrelevant individuals.”
