The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will face crushing defeat in the 2027 general elections, even if all the 36 state governors are under its umbrella.
According to the ADC, the ruling party’s scramble for members across the political spectrum reflects a growing awareness of its declining popularity among ordinary Nigerians.
In a statement on Sunday, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi said, “The APC has become deeply unpopular because of the hardships Nigerians face under its rule. Ordinary citizens are tired of a party that has consistently failed to improve their lives.”
The opposition party also dismissed claims by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, that key ADC figures would defect to the ruling party next week. Abdullahi said such statements expose the desperation of the APC, noting that “even with all the governors and senators they boast about, the APC is now resorting to chasing ADC members, which shows they know the party is in trouble.”
The ADC described recent defections to the APC as a tactic by a ruling elite seeking self-preservation at the expense of the populace. “This is the same desperate game the PDP played at the height of its powers,” the party added.
The opposition further stressed that “real democratic power resides with the people, not a few political operators. APC will soon learn this bitter truth.”
