A legal practitioner and political analyst, Liborous Oshoma, has called on President Bola Tinubu to reduce his foreign trips and concentrate on tackling the country’s mounting security and poverty issues.
Oshoma made the appeal on Friday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television, monitored by Patriotic Insights News.
“The President embarks on working visits abroad, such as his upcoming trip to France, accompanied by a large entourage including governors, ministers, and others, regardless of the cost,” Oshoma said.
He added, “At a time when the nation is expected to tighten its belt, reminiscent of the Structural Adjustment Programme of the IBB era, citizens expect the President to share in the burden of hardship his policies have imposed. While people are willing to endure these difficulties, they also want to see leadership accountability.”
Oshoma further noted the growing disconnect between the presidency and domestic concerns. “Insecurity has become so normalized that whenever there is a crisis, the President is often abroad. I believe the President should reduce foreign trips and focus more on domestic challenges.”
According to available records, since his inauguration, President Tinubu has embarked on 46 foreign trips, spending a total of 192 days outside Nigeria as of October 2025.
