ADC Kicks Off Kwara Operations, Promises ‘New Dawn’ as Party Targets APC

ADC Kicks Off Kwara Operations, Promises ‘New Dawn’ as Party Targets APC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) officially launched its Kwara State chapter on Saturday with the flag-off of its State Secretariat at the Basin area, Ilorin, in a ceremony attended by party leaders and supporters.

The launch, which comes amid growing political tension in the state, was described by party officials as a signal of ADC’s readiness to offer a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. AbdulFatai Ahmed, said the launch symbolises the party’s permanence and heralds a shift in the state’s political landscape.

“The significance is clear. This shows that the party has matured and is here to stay. A new dawn has been set in Kwara. ADC represents a new direction in our political journey, committed to advancing the collective interests of Kwarans,” Ahmed said.

He further assured residents that ADC would entrench a political culture that reflects the people’s aspirations. “Kwara is going to be different because we are poised to ensure that a new party emerges to represent the people’s wishes. ADC has come to stay,” he added.

National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, described the launch as a demonstration of the party’s growing popularity.

“Today’s event is proof that our chances in the next election are bright. The people have embraced ADC; they are ready for change and do not want APC to continue,” Abdullahi said. He dismissed concerns over defections to APC, noting that many defectors are increasingly unpopular with their constituents.

Hon. Abubakar Amuda Kannike, a senior party official, spoke on the party’s leadership approach and promises. “ADC believes in collegial leadership. Every member is a stakeholder. Our leaders emerge from the people because the people trust us to serve their interests,” Kannike said.

He pledged a “new dawn” for Kwara, promising governance focused on empathy, security, welfare, and infrastructure to support economic growth.

National Secretary of the ADC, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, also took aim at the APC, accusing the ruling party of intimidating opposition members.

“If APC were confident, it would not be hunting opposition across the country. Their actions show they are aware they lack popularity,” Aregbesola said.

The event attracted a large turnout of supporters and party faithful, marking ADC’s push to expand its influence in Kwara as it prepares for upcoming elections.
