Sowore Urges FG to Drop Nnamdi Kanu’s Terrorism Case, Threatens Nationwide Protest

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has called on the Federal Government to discontinue the terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a post on X on Thursday, Sowore described the ongoing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja, as an opportunity for the government to correct what he termed a “long-standing injustice.”

He said the case, which resumed Thursday, was a “sham built on politics, prejudice, and suppression,” and traced its origin to Kanu’s “illegal and extraordinary rendition” from Kenya.

Sowore further warned that the Attorney-General of the Federation still had “a few hours today to do the right thing” by filing a nolle prosequi, formally discontinuing the trial.

He also urged Justice James Omotosho to “make history by standing on the side of truth, fairness, and humanity” through the dismissal of the case. According to him, such action would restore public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system and spare the Tinubu administration further embarrassment.

The AAC presidential candidate also announced plans to lead a nationwide protest on October 20 against Kanu’s continued detention.
