Mbah, Enugu Cabinet Cross Over to APC, Cites Need for Political Renewal

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ending months of speculation about his political future.

Governor Mbah made the announcement in a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, explaining that his decision followed deep reflection and a desire to reposition Enugu State for greater progress.

“Today, after long and sober reflection, we have decided to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” he declared.
“This marks a break from the past and a renewed commitment to building a stronger Enugu that aligns with the nation’s development trajectory. Leadership sometimes requires tough choices in pursuit of higher principles and goals,” he added.

The defection, which also saw all members of his cabinet move to the APC, represents a major political realignment in Enugu State — a PDP stronghold since 1999.

Mbah’s Senior Media Aide, Dan Nwomeh, confirmed the development in a video shared on his social media pages on Monday. The clip showed commissioners and aides pledging loyalty to the APC and commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.

“Enugu State Cabinet Members join the APC with full chest along with Governor PN Mbah,” Nwomeh captioned the video, which also captured chants of “APC all the way” and “Jagaban from top to bottom.”

The defection is expected to alter the political landscape in the South-East, with analysts describing it as one of the most significant moves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
