The family of the late Chief C.O. Adebayo has disowned the comments made by Archbishop Amao during the burial service last Saturday, describing them as politically charged and entirely the cleric’s personal opinion.
In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, Mrs. Bukunola Ajayi (Adebayo), speaking on behalf of the family, said the remarks did not reflect the family’s position and were made without their consent or prior knowledge.
“Our father was a man of peace who respected constituted authority, and it was unfortunate that his funeral was used as a platform for such remarks,” the statement said. “Those comments did not reflect his values. The bishop’s message was not known to any family member beforehand, nor was he selected by the family.”
The family expressed deep regret over any embarrassment the incident may have caused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that the governor’s support before and during the burial was both respectful and appreciated.
“We deeply regret any discomfort caused to His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and reaffirm our respect and appreciation for the support extended to our family during the burial ceremony,” Mrs. Ajayi said.
She also dismissed insinuations that the preacher’s invitation was politically motivated or intended to embarrass the state government, stressing that such suggestions were “false and malicious.”
“The family remains committed to maintaining a cordial and respectful relationship with the Kwara State Government,” she added.
