Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has cut short his medical trip abroad to visit Akinlalu town following the killing of three residents by operatives of the Amotekun security service.
The governor, who arrived from the United States late on Sunday, was received by the royal father of Akinlalu, Oba Israel Oluwabusola Aborisade, members of the town, and families of the victims. He was accompanied by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Secretary to the State Government Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, Chief of Staff Hon. Kazeem Akinleye, as well as other members of the state executive council.
Addressing the people at the palace, Governor Adeleke expressed shock over the incident. “I am truly sad. I was in the United States when the unfortunate incident happened. I cut short my medical stay and headed straight here to empathise with the victims,” he said.
The governor assured that those responsible would face the law. “There won’t be any sacred cows. Any Amotekun officer needed for police interrogation is to cooperate fully. I have directed the Board Chairman of Amotekun, AIG Wale Abbas (Rtd), to ensure full cooperation with the investigation,” Adeleke stated.
He also announced plans to compensate the families of the victims and to construct a police station in the town. “Akinlalu is our town. My administration will fast-track its development, but above all, suspects will face the law,” he added.
The Alakinlalu, Oba Israel Oluwabusola Aborisade, thanked the governor for the visit and urged that justice be secured. “Excellency, we trust your leadership. We appeal for peace while awaiting justice. We are confident the suspects will not go unpunished,” he said.
Representatives of the people, including Hon. Oyewusi Ireyode Akinyode and the youth leader Musbau Adeboye, praised the governor for ongoing developmental projects in the town, such as the Akinlalu township road, and submitted a position paper requesting the suspension of implicated Amotekun officials, full compensation, transparent investigation, and protection against future security harassment.
The deputy speaker of the Osun House of Assembly also reminded residents that the Amotekun service is crucial for community policing and appealed for calm, urging the people not to “throw the baby away with the bath water.”
The visit underscores the governor’s commitment to justice, development, and the welfare of the people of Akinlalu.
