FG Alerts FCT, Seven States Over Imminent Flood Threat

The Federal Government has issued a flood alert to residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and seven other states, warning of possible heavy rainfall and flooding between October 11 and 13, 2025.

In a statement by the National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEWS Centre), areas within the FCT expected to be affected include Lokogoma, Lugbe, Mabushi, Mararaba, Nyanya, Wuse 1 & 2, Kuje, Guzape, and Garki 1 & 2.

The Centre also listed parts of Anambra, Adamawa, Enugu, Rivers, Delta, Kebbi, and Taraba states among those likely to experience flooding during the period. Specifically, the flood-prone areas include Awka, Onitsha, Otuocha, Umueze Anam, Umugboma (Anambra); Song (Adamawa); Nsukka (Enugu); Bonny (Rivers); Escravos, Okwe, Oko Anara (Delta); Sakaba (Kebbi); and Wukari (Taraba).

Communities along the River Benue, from Makurdi through Lokoja and Idah to Umueze-Anam and Onitsha, were urged to remain alert as water levels continue to rise.

Director of the Erosion, Flood & Coastal Zone Management Department of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, emphasized the need for proactive measures by residents and state authorities to prevent loss of lives and property.

He urged relevant agencies and state emergency management bodies to take the warning seriously and provide timely feedback to the Centre to aid coordination of response efforts.

The warning comes as Nigeria continues to experience seasonal flooding in various regions, leading to displacement, infrastructure damage, and loss of farmlands.
