Otti: No Apprentices in Government, Only Proven Professionals Allowed

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that government is not a place for apprenticeship, stressing that appointments in his administration are strictly based on competence and track records.

The governor spoke on Friday during the 60th birthday celebration of Sir Nwaobilor Nwadimma Ananaba, the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, at New Eastern Comfort Hotel, Umuahia.

“This government relies on a track record. It is not a place to learn on the job. If you don’t have the experience, you cannot serve. You must go and acquire the skills first, then return. Merit is key,” Otti said.

He described appointees as accomplished professionals and emphasised that appointments are not favours. “We assign positions to those who can deliver. If you merit it, you get it. If not, no one will compromise standards,” he added.

Otti reiterated that the new Abia administration is anchored on merit and competence, praising Sir Ananaba for his performance at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. “The reward for good work is more work. Your past achievements earned you this opportunity,” he said.

He wished the commissioner long life and good health, saying: “You have reached 60. With God’s grace, you will see 70, 80, 90, and even 100.”

In his remarks, Sir Ananaba thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve and prayed for blessings on all who joined his birthday celebration.
