Enugu APC Rejects NWC Dissolution, Declares Loyalty to State Executive
Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) decision to dissolve its executive committee, describing the action as unconstitutional and a violation of party rules.
In a statement signed by the state chairman, Barr. Ugochukwu Agballa, and secretary, Mr. Titus Ezeagu, the committee insisted that it had not breached any provision of the APC constitution. They also noted that the chairman of the seven-member caretaker committee appointed by the NWC, Dr. Ben Nwoye, had already resigned from the party.
The statement read in part: “APC Enugu State was never informed of any constitutional breach or infraction that could justify the NWC’s decision. The party constitution guarantees a fair hearing through a duly empowered disciplinary committee, yet no such hearing was conducted.”
Citing Article 21B (VI) D of the APC constitution, the Enugu exco argued that the Southeast zonal executive committee is the proper organ to intervene in state party affairs before escalating issues to the NWC.
“The dissolution of APC Enugu State is alien to the laws of the party and amounts to an act of impunity that will be resisted by all party organs at ward, local government, and state levels,” the statement added.
On the caretaker committee, the Enugu APC said only one of the appointed members is a registered party member, while the rest had been expelled or suspended for anti-party activities. The statement also noted that Dr. Ben Nwoye formally resigned from the APC on April 17, 2025, publicly criticizing the national leadership.
The state executive committee called on all members to remain in office, discharge their responsibilities, and disregard the purported dissolution. Members were further directed not to attend any meetings or gatherings not sanctioned by the lawfully elected state executive.
