The Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Member representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Busayo Wole Oke, has lauded the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for the swift arrest of suspects allegedly involved in the killing of residents of Akinlalu in Ife-North Local Government Area of Osun State.

In a statement on Thursday, Hon. Oke described the action of the Nigeria Police Force as “a commendable demonstration of responsibility, professionalism, and commitment to justice.”

The lawmaker recalled that on October 1, 2025, operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, reportedly under the supervision of retired Chief Superintendent of Police Adekunle Omoyele, allegedly invaded Akinlalu community, killing at least ten residents and injuring several others.

Following public outrage over the incident, the police reportedly sealed the operational bases of Amotekun in Osogbo and Ile-Ife, while about 20 operatives were taken into custody for questioning.

Hon. Oke described the arrests as an important step toward accountability but urged the police to pursue a comprehensive investigation to ensure all individuals involved are brought to justice, regardless of rank or influence.

“I salute the courage and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of IGP Kayode Egbetokun for responding swiftly to this tragic incident. However, I call for a thorough, transparent, and far-reaching investigation to ensure that justice is not only done but is seen to be done,” he said.

The lawmaker stressed that no society could thrive where citizens fear those tasked with protecting them, adding that the sanctity of human life must be respected at all times.

“The people of Osun State, particularly the grieving families in Akinlalu, deserve justice. Rogue elements within any security formation must be identified, isolated, and punished in accordance with the law,” he added.

Hon. Oke also appealed for calm among residents, assuring that the House of Representatives would closely monitor developments to ensure legislative oversight and proper attention to the matter.

“Our democracy is strengthened when the rule of law prevails, and when every citizen, irrespective of social or political affiliation, is treated equally before the law,” he concluded.
