Yesufu Urges Nigerian Women to Embrace Politics for National Progress

Frontline socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has urged Nigerian women to take active roles in politics, saying the country cannot reach its full potential while women shy away from decision-making positions.

Speaking on Wednesday, Yesufu highlighted the example of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as a testament to what courage and determination can achieve in the political arena.

In a post on X, Yesufu wrote:

“Dear Nigerian Women, staying away from politics has not helped us. It has not allowed Nigeria to reach its full potential and has left the few of us who dared to enter vulnerable to bullying. With Senator Natasha Akpoti, we have repeatedly seen what courage can overcome.

“So, sisters, even if we lack the funds, we have each other. We can lift each other up and gain access to decision-making rooms, helping Nigeria achieve its potential. Let’s dare, and yes, we can.”

Yesufu’s comments come amid growing calls for increased female participation in governance and leadership across Nigeria.
