Kekere-Ekun Swears in Mainasara Kogo as CCT Chairman, Urges Impartiality

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has sworn in Mainasara Umar Kogo as the new chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The ceremony took place in Abuja on Tuesday.

Addressing the tribunal chief, Kekere-Ekun stressed the importance of integrity and independence in the office. “The role demands a person of sound judgment, unshakeable independence, and moral courage to do what is right, regardless of whose interests are involved,” she said.

The CJN urged Kogo to uphold the law without fear or favour, affirming that his loyalty must be to the constitution and the nation, not to any individual or political group. “The trust placed in you is on behalf of the nation. It must never be compromised or traded for personal or political reasons,” she added.

Kogo expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to ensure justice is served with fairness, courage, and transparency. He promised to strengthen institutional integrity within the tribunal and make sure that justice is both done and seen to be done.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Kogo in July to succeed Danladi Umar, who had served as CCT chairman since 2011. Umar’s tenure was marred by allegations of corruption and a reported assault on a security officer in Abuja in 2021, prompting calls from the National Assembly for his removal.
