Yesufu: Nigerians Must Unite Against Tinubu Over Rising Killings

Activist Aisha Yesufu has condemned Nigerians for turning on each other instead of holding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration accountable for the country’s escalating insecurity.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Yesufu said the government had successfully diverted public outrage, with citizens now arguing over the identities of victims rather than demanding an end to the killings.

She criticised religious and tribal bias in public reactions, noting that many Nigerians only express concern when victims share their faith or ethnic background.

“Yesufu urged citizens to take responsibility and confront the government directly. ‘I give it to the illegitimate administration of Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has gotten defeated people fighting themselves instead of fighting him and his illegitimate administration over the killings in Nigeria,’ she said.

“Imagine the fight is over who is being killed rather than that citizens are being killed. For those with religious bigotry, they see only when those who practice the same religion are killed. For those with tribal bigotry, it is only when their tribal people are killed that they see deaths,” she added.

The activist also stressed the importance of active civic engagement, urging Nigerians to use their votes and voices to stop the killings. “Sit down in a quiet corner and ask yourself what you have done to ensure the killings stop. You are not helpless; you are an active player,” she said.

Yesufu’s warning comes as insecurity continues to claim thousands of lives across the country, raising urgent calls for government intervention.
