Oshiomhole Warns Jonathan Against 2027 Presidential Bid
Former Edo State Governor and APC national leader, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan to preserve his legacy by resisting calls to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Oshiomhole made the remarks while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme. He noted that only Jonathan’s political adversaries would benefit from him re-entering the presidential race.
“How can Jonathan be a threat? We defeated him before when PDP was truly PDP. If a man had PDP at its peak, I think it is only his enemies who would push him into the ring,” Oshiomhole said.
He further argued that contesting in 2027 might not be in Jonathan’s best interest. “That may not be helpful to him. He has already shown that out of power, one can remain relevant and at peace. If I were advising him, I would say: ‘Maintain this status. Spend the rest of your life finding relevance, which you have already achieved.’”
Jonathan, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lost the 2015 presidential election to the late President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
