Until Nigerians Confront Rotten System, Nation Will Remain Stuck — Inibehe Effiong

Human rights lawyer and activist, Inibehe Effiong, has lamented that Nigeria may never attain its true greatness unless citizens rise to challenge what he described as a deeply “rotten system” sustained by corrupt and incompetent leadership.

Effiong, in a post shared on his X handle on Sunday, said the country’s progress would continue to be stifled as long as Nigerians keep entrusting their future to leaders who lack the integrity and capacity to drive meaningful change.

He expressed dismay that many citizens still believe that the same political class responsible for the nation’s backwardness would one day reform themselves and work for the collective good.

According to him, such hope is misplaced and unrealistic.

> “Nigeria will never fulfil its true potentials as long as Nigerians continue to allow the worst among them to rule the country.

The expectation that the criminals and criminally minded politicians who are ruining the country will someday become circumspect, and begin to work for the progress of Nigeria is delusional.

We either confront this rotten system and those operating it or we live in perpetual servitude,” he said.

Effiong, known for his outspoken advocacy for justice and good governance, maintained that true national rebirth would only begin when Nigerians decide to hold their leaders accountable and reject the culture of impunity.

He added that reclaiming the nation’s destiny would require courage, unity, and an unwavering commitment to truth and fairness from all citizens.
