Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has blasted President Bola Tinubu over his visit to Jos, Plateau State, calling it “misplaced, insensitive, and politically tone-deaf” amid widespread insecurity and terror attacks in the region.

President Tinubu was in Plateau on Saturday to attend the funeral of the mother of APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda. In a statement later released, Atiku said the president’s trip “underscores his disregard for ordinary Nigerians, whose lives continue to be under siege by terrorists and bandits.”

“At a time when families in North Central states are burying their loved ones, President Tinubu chose to celebrate with political elites rather than console the bereaved,” Atiku said. “This is a leader who feasts where his people bleed.”

The former vice president cited the president’s previous visit to Benue State, where he stopped in Makurdi without visiting Yelewata, the epicenter of attacks allegedly by armed Fulani militias. “This administration treats grief as a side show and pain as secondary,” Atiku charged.

He condemned the government for ignoring the security crises in Benue, Niger, Kwara, and Plateau, describing the APC-led leadership as “detached, indifferent, and focused on optics over action.”

“The Nigerian people are watching. They will remember a President who prefers merriment over mourning,” Atiku warned.
