Chinese Firm to Establish Power Plant, Industrial Park in Ogun

In a move aimed at boosting industrialization and energy supply in Ogun State, Chinese company CCETC has announced plans to set up a power generation plant and an industrial park in the state.

Guo Xianda, chairman of CCETC, disclosed this during a meeting with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta on Saturday. He said the company intends to install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport at no cost, a move expected to accelerate economic activities in the region.

“The investment pledge follows Governor Abiodun’s recent visit to China, where he led an economic team to explore partnerships and investments in sectors such as technology, energy, and manufacturing,” the statement said.

CCETC, headquartered in Jiangsu, China, already operates over 250MW of power projects across Nigeria and other African countries. The company is seeking to expand its footprint on the continent, with a total generation capacity exceeding 5,000MW for distribution.

According to Xianda, CCETC’s projects in Ogun will focus on power generation and distribution, developing a state-dedicated transmission network, and establishing an industrial park aimed at attracting more Chinese manufacturers.

Governor Abiodun commended the company for its strategic investment initiatives, emphasizing that the projects will strengthen power supply, enhance transmission networks, and support industrial growth in the state.

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure reliable electricity across Ogun, the governor is expected to lead a team on an inspection tour of power distribution and infrastructure projects being implemented by Sahara and Powergen.
